Wellpreserved blog was started by Joel MacCharles and Dana Harrison as a one-stop shop for information on pickling, canning, and preserving. The blog has been running since 2008 and contains thousands of articles on preserving goodness. The topics range from hunting to gardening and preserving.
They have won an award from Apartment Therapy for ‘best food blog’ proving just how popular they are.
Seasonal Ontario Food
Jennifer Saunders has managed to keep her blogs shtick for years now. She sticks to writing about local and seasonal ingredients with information on what counts as organic and what to watch out for.
On the blog, readers can search the ingredients and recipes by month, and it provides an inspirational source for home cooks. Many recipes are categorized for different seasons and months.
The First Mess
Laura Wright started this blog to capture what it’s like to live in the Niagara region. The recipes are often snapshots of what’s fresh and seasonal. The great writing on the blog provided with the amazing photos won her a Saveur Magazine Food Blog Award.
Seven Spoons
Seven Spoons are based in Southern Ontario and created by Tara O’Brady. Tara has been blogging for more than 9 years and writes that the blog has become more than just a blog about recipes. She describes it as being about family and food. The recipes are easy to make but still full of flavor with fresh ingredients.
Some of the outstanding recipes include plum-ripped ginger ice cream, and roasted cauliflower and leek soup.
In the Weeds TV
This is a great video-blog web series about the thrill and skill of foraging fresh ingredients and recipes in Ontario. The episodes feature many different chefs from Ontario learning about how to locate particular ingredients. They then prepare an amazing meal with the ingredients.
This is a great blog to follow on fresh ingredients and how to source fresh ingredients which may be difficult to find.

Christine Manning started this blog when she quit her day job as a digital marketer. She then started preserving as a full-time job. The blog posts are all about preserving foods. Not only do readers get to read tasty recipes but also indulge in some fun humor and thoughtfulness.
She has won a 1st place spot in the Canadian Blog Awards for the best cooking and other Creative Activities Blogs.
